Thank you to all who attended the 2013 Cordova Bay Association for Community Affairs (CBA) Annual General Meeting on April 25. More than 120 people attended and half remained for the business meeting.
Attendees were treated to complimentary tea and coffee from Starbucks as well as delicious cookies donated by Tru Value Foods in Cordova Bay. Thanks to Claremont Secondary School for the comfortable venue.
The guest speaker was our community’s Member of Parliament, Elizabeth May. She led an entertaining and thought-provoking presentation on how to restore public confidence in our political institutions.
During the public meeting, brief updates of progress by the CBA over the past year were shared with the audience by directors of the board.

Re-elected to the board were: Ed Boomars, David Kuprowsky, Randy Otto, Graham Shorthill, Lori Strandlund.
There were no changes in assignment of portfolio to each member of the volunteer board of directors of the CBA.

A relaxed and informal 2012 Annual General Meeting was held on 26 April in the 55 Plus Centre. Mayor Frank Leonard was the guest speaker, and he answered questions. He emphasized the importance of infrastructure renewal (pipes in the ground, bridges etc) and said the 3.25 per cent tax increase includes 0.75 per cent for this purpose. He hopes council continues this expenditure every year.
Most importantly, he emphasised a definite change in the coming years to garbage collection that will see kitchen scraps separated for composting rather than going to the dump. Click here to read about the two three-month pilot projects already underway within the District of Saanich.

Volunteers from the 55 Plus Association provided delicious refreshments during the interval accompanied by a ‘Cordova Bay’ slideshow.

Seven members were elected to the board of directors – three of whom were re-elected – to join the four incumbents.

The Mayor of Saanich, Frank Leonard, was guest speaker at the Annual General Meeting of the Cordova Bay Association for Community Affairs (CBA) on April 20, 2011.

As a thank you to the CBA board of directors for its recent donation, Katie Hennessy and Matthew & Faith Davison from the Cordova Bay PreSchool kindly presented CBA President, Richard Alexander, with a beautiful card made by all the children at the preschool.
