Cordova Bay Association for Community Affairs
Annual General Meeting - 2011

Mayor Leonard reported to an audience of 70 on the present work and future wishes of the Saanich Councillors, which includes a drive to lower child obesity. He urged Cordova Bay residents to form Block Watch groups and seriously think about Emergency Preparedness - comparing Victoria to the same infrastructure as Christchurch, New Zealand. There were several questions and answers on issues dear to our hearts in Cordova Bay.

An important announcement was that the sidewalk between Haliburton and 5110 Cordova Bay Road will definitely be built this year. And, within one month, the provincial government will set up a committee to decide what safety improvements can be put in place at the Sayward/Pat Bay intersection.

Saanich South MLA, Lana Popham, was in the audience and she kindly updated us on the work her office has been doing with this very dangerous intersection. Please check out Lana's website: http://saanichsouth.blogspot.com where you'll find details of upcoming events in the area.
The CBA has been campaigning for safety improvements at this intersection for some time as you can see on items posted lower down on the main "News" page.

At the membership business meeting after the refreshment break, there were reports from the Treasurer, Committee Chairs and the President. CBA members then elected five directors for two-year terms to the board of directors - Bob Jones, Randy Otto, Graham Shorthill, Shirley Jasperse and David Kuprowsky, and two directors for one-year terms - Sylvia Burkhardt and Dave Cutler (who join Anthony Minniti, Penny Joppe, Jennifer Furtado and Jack Colbert). And they bade farewell to retiring board members: Richard Alexander, Maureen Leech, Wayne Christmas and Janice de Cunha.

During 'New Business' Greg Abbot, on behalf of the Cordova Bay Community Club (CBCC), told us the history of the club, and explained the alternatives for the existing facility and property on Sutcliffe Road. The directors of the CBCC want the Cordova Bay residents to be aware of the problems faced for the club to become, once again, 'the social and recreational centre of the community'.

The draw prize was a $25 gift certificate from Adrienne's Tea Garden at Mattick's Farm and the winner was Graham Shorthill.
